I am using Windows 10 Home 32 bit. Well anybody who is reinstalling Windows 10 simply because CCleaner isn't working is making life unnecessarily difficult. If you go into the settings for CCleaner and disable it from letting you know about newer versions life is much simpler.
New versions rarely add more functionality. You can then upgrade maybe every six months or when the mood takes you. Being obsessed with updating everything is bad practise and inviting trouble.
Keeping security software and Windows updated is however important. I would never reinstall a complete OS simply because some utility like this is failing - - after all, the system itself is still sane. Here's a little conundrum related to the thread.
On my main desktop running Windows 10 I was unable to get some downloaded programs to install and other programs wouldn't run. Actually, this included CCleaner. The box would come up for whether I wanted to allow the software to make changes by running or installing the program with the option to select Yes or No.
I've always been able to use the mouse to do this but clicking on Yes or No does nothing. Control, alt and delete wasn't opening Task Manager either, but right clicking the start button to do so worked.
Eventually, after near paranoia about possible trojans withholding my administator rights, I discovered that if I used the direction keys on the keyboard to select Yes and then pressed the enter key the programs would run or install.
I'm still baffled by this. On my other computers the mouse does the job as always. Hi, Updated my CCleaner free the other day, all works as it should in Win 10 64 bit. I would have thought that Piriform would have tested everything works on Win 10, as more PC users will be moving over to it, or already have done.
Not tried this myself, but an option might be to run CCleaner portable version from a flash memory stick, might be worth a try. You must log in or sign up to reply here. I did install the portable version of ccleaner but it also stopped working in the same way the other one did so unless somebody has a link for an older version, I guess I'll forget about using it.
I downloaded this version CCleaner 5. I tried another older one but same. Thank you but my patience has run out tonight. Sorry to hear that. There has to be something wrong with Windows causing this to happen.
Strange though that you are only seeing issues with this one program. Tomorrow I might see if there is a ccleaner forum to see if others are having similiar problems. I appreciate your patience with me.
